What is Functional Nutrition?

At Innovative Health & Wellness Group, we understand the importance of having the functional nutrition. Our clinicians have extensive education in utilizing nutrition to optimize your health. It is our goal to provide each patient with an individualized plan to reclaim their health or keep it. Your plan is built around education, evaluation, communication, health optimization, and nutrition.

Education

We believe that each patient should know why we are asking them to make changes. We are in an age of internet searching, where you are desperately trying to figure out what you should do to be healthy. Unfortunately, you are left searching blogs and are not sure which information you should trust. We want to take the guess work out of improving your health.

Innovative Health & Wellness Group seeks to educate you throughout the entire process of functional nutrition starting at the initial examination. We set aside time to make sure we are not rushing your health journey. We review your labs, diet, and supplements to answer any questions you have at that time. Follow-ups are crucial in learning and taking your health to the next level. We review an extensive amount of information, and it is during the follow-up that you bring questions and have them answered.

Many patients have been shocked at the amount of education they received. Too often you never hear the results of your labs or are told to do something without a reason you can understand. It is very important to us that you understand your results, as this is a marker used for your health.Functional Nutrition

Nutrition

We know 80% of all chronic disease are related to diet and lifestyle.

Innovative Health & Wellness Group believes about functional nutrition of the food we eat is an investment in our health. Understanding where our food comes from and the impact it has on our health is crucial. Unfortunately when you talk about eating healthy people think about diets. Dieting is a transient approach that is never intended to truly be a change. Correct nutrition is not transient, but is intended to allow you to be healthy now and in the future.

Nutrition is broken down into macro and micronutrients. The macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals. Our standard diet provides more than enough macronutrients, but is lacking in micronutrients. These micronutrients are vital in our health. If the right foods are not eaten, this can result in deficiencies which will manifest in your lab work and can lead to disease if not corrected.

There are many diseases associated with diet, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, diabetes, and neurodegeneration. Functional Nutrition plays a role in many more things beyond these diseases. It impacts our energy levels, immune function, and gut health.

Patient Evaluation

Our evaluation entails detailed consultations and testing in order to provide the best plan functional nutrition for each individual patient. Our approach is tailored to the individual. Innovative Health & Wellness Group takes time to understand what each patient is experiencing and ensures a customized approach as opposed to the generic planning for all patients that is frequently offered. We want to ensure each patient is empowered, valued, respected, and educated by listening to them and educating them about the state of their health.

Innovative Health & Wellness Group uses its comprehensive functional neurological and metabolic testing to determine what your body needs specifically. We do not use computer programs or generic protocols to help you supplement your body’s needs. Rather, we use specific results obtained from our testing to determine your individual needs.

Metabolic Testing

To assess a patient metabolically, Innovative Health & Wellness Group uses specific assessment tools and analysis to identify the causes of:

  • Fatigue
  • Digestive Complaints
  • Food Sensitivity and Intolerance
  • Hormone Imbalance
  • Adrenal Dysfunction
  • Detoxification Errors
  • Thyroid Symptoms
  • Leaky Gut
  • Inflammation
  • Immune Dysfunction

Once we get a complete picture of your body systems, we will sit down with you and make sure you understand what we have found and what that means for you. Every person is unique and should be treated individually, which is why Innovative Health & Wellness Group uses these proven methods to detect each person’s unique physiological disorders.

Digestive Issues

Bloated, gassy, distended, constipated, upset stomach, difficulty losing weight, or other symptoms? The best place to start is your gut health. Digestive function is one of the most important functions of the body and a source of daily complaints for millions. Research has started focusing on the importance of our gut microbiome, which is the makeup of our bacteria. Bacteria has a very positive influence on our health, which can also be a source of misery. Having the right composition of bacteria is crucial to having a healthy gut, brain, immune, and musculoskeletal systems. Our intestinal microbiota impacts many aspects of our health, including our mood and cognitive function.Happy Couple Eating Ice Cream

Steps to a Healthier Gut

  1. Identify the root cause through a proper evaluation.

Detoxification

Our body encounters toxins on a regular basis, from the food we eat, water we drink and bathe in, to the air we breathe. These pollutants will not harm our system individually, but if they collect over time and are stored in our tissues, we begin to get breakdown of our tissues and physiology. The collection of toxins creates an environment ideal for bacteria, virus, yeast, fungal, and parasite growth. This will lead to fluid retention (edema), inflammation, infections, immune system compromise, pain, weight gain, and many other common complaints.

At Innovative Health & Wellness Group, we have developed individually-based detoxification guides, based on your unique physiology, metabolism, and neurological health. We use different tools to accomplish the body detox:

  • Ionic foot detox with IonCleanse by AMD
  • 3-21 day diet and detox regimens tailored to your specific needs
  • GI evaluation
  • Evaluation to determine your needs and
the cause of your system break-down
  • Neurological assessment
  • Parasite and yeast evaluation
  • Allergy analysis and elimination
  • Hormone evaluation
  • Thyroid evaluation
  • Massage
  • Lymphatic drainage

Painless Allergy Testing

Our painless allergy testing and elimination rapidly combines multiple assessment techniques to provide lasting relief. We use induction laser technology to help treat and identify allergies, imbalances, stressors, and distortions.

Qi5 Body Scan & Balance is a multicomponent biofeedback based system that is fully automated. It can be fully customized to meet the needs of each individual patient. The Qi5 is unique in that it not only identifies the item causing the allergy, but also provides an effective therapy that requires no drugs, no needles, no diets, and most importantly, gives the ability for the body to healthily support its processes and balance.

Low Level Laser Therapy for Nutritional Wellness

The low level laser therapy tools that  we use work to support the body’s ability to create healing and wellness. Our clinic uses the Erchonia PL5, Aura PTL II, and Qi5 lasers. While there are many uses for this laser therapy, it helps to promote energy, whole food nutrition, and complete wellness in the body.

Functional Nutrition Research

Bruce Ames who is a leading nutritionist and toxicologist, Professor at U. Cal. Berkeley, Children’s Hospital of Oakland Research Institute, published over 350 scientific articles…responded to mainstream nutritionists who remain reticent to recommend multivitamins and state: “People should be encouraged to eat healthier diets, not pop pills.” Ames says: “Of course we should eat good diets, but that is no reason not to urge them to take multi-vitamins too.” And, later commented, “No matter how well you eat, take a multivitamin daily, it just may save your life.” (EMBO Rep. 2005; 6:520-24, J Nutr. 2004; 134(11):31645-31685, J Nutr. 2003; 133(5 Suppl 1):1544S-8S), Alternative Medicine. June 2005, p.76-81.)

Dr. Fletcher, PhD at Harvard stated: “Even people who eat five daily servings of fruits and vegetables may not get enough of certain vitamins and minerals for optimum health.” “Most people cannot get the healthiest levels of folate and vitamins D and E from current diets.” “The new evidence, much of it within the last couple of years, is that vitamins also prevent the usual disease we deal with every day- heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and birth defects.” (Kotulak, R. Association Flips: AMA supports daily vitamins. Charlotte Observer, June 26, 2002.).

Journal of the American Medical Association (2002): Researchers from Harvard state: “In the absence of specific predisposing conditions, a usual North American diet is sufficient to prevent overt vitamin deficiency diseases….However, insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of chronic diseases…A large proportion of the general population is apparently at increased risk for this reason….Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone….We recommend that all adults take a multivitamin daily”.
